Advantage Filtration System Installation

In 2006 we rebuilt our pond and installed the
Sacramento Koi "Advantage" Filtration System.
We have been extremely impressed with the clarity of the water.

Components:
We installed the Advantage 15 bead and glass polishing filters, a collector box, a Savio skimmer, an Elektra Pro EP20 U/V clarifier, dual 4 inch bottom drains with air diffusers and 8 eductor jets for continuous circulation. Our system is powered by twin 1/2 h.p. Performance Pro Artesian pumps with a 1/3 h.p. Performance Pro Artesian dedicated to the jets and a 1 h.p. submersible Tsurumi in the skimmer box for additional flow in the lower waterfall.

The surface with aerator turned on. We get great oxygen saturation
and water agitation

The surface with the aerator turned off is much calmer. Great for viewing the koi.

Here are some shots of the Sacramento Koi Advantage 15 bead filter
and polishing filter installation. Tight quarters. Give yourself more space.

Extremely effective mechanical filtration. Heavy solids fall to the bottom of the collector box. Two 4 inch bottom drains are plumbed into the collector box (seen in the lower right picture). The skimmer is also plumbed into the collector box.
3 inch flex to the filter system. Japanese matting for fine particulate filtration.

Savio Skimmer Box with 1 h.p. submersible Tsurumi pump. We turn this one
on when we want a more dramatic effect for the waterfall.

Main pumps are twin 1/2 h.p. Performance Pro Artesians.
Pump for jets is a 1/3 h.p. Performance Pro Artesian. Each pump is on a dedicated breaker and is individually switched. (See Electrical below)

A Hi Blow 80 air pump powers 2 air diffusers mounted on the top of the bottom drains.
Flow is regulated by individual ball valves.

Bottom Drains

4 inch bottom drains with air diffusers mounted on top. These pictures show the bottom drains at 5 foot below the surface, diffusers turned off.

Jets

We installed 8 Eductor jets for continuous circulation. Jets are located 18 inches below the surface.

Lighting

We also installed six 75 watt Pentair lights mounted 18 inches below the surface.
The night effect is incredible. These pictures don't do it justice.

Electrical

We installed six 20 amp circuits to power the pond. Each pump is on a separate switch and breaker. If one fails the others continue to operate. There are two 600 watt 12 volt transformers for the underwater lights and surrounding waterfall lighting. Make sure that you think ahead, give yourself plenty of outlets and plan for expansion.
